Gonna Go Back To School
Takin' An Apple Today
It's For My Teacher, Ya Know
Just Where Did This Get Started Anyway?!?!
OK Class ...
Time For A Little Edja-ma-cation!!
# 1. The tradition started because
a teacher sows a seed that grows in the child,
called knowledge.
The apple symbolized knowledge.
# 2. From 1700 to 1900, children in Denmark and Sweden
gave teachers apples because
they came from poor farming families
that were unable to pay for school.
# 3. Teachers were poorly paid
so families would help support teachers with food
by giving them apples which was a fairly common crop.
As time progressed and teachers earned more money
baskets of apples were narrowed down to just one apple.
